This disk contains a time-limited version of Expresso that expires 60 days after installation.  There is no functional difference between this and the "full" version of the product.  This version of Expresso comes with 7 looks; the full version comes with 22 stunning looks.  Your Expresso data will remain intact even after the time-limited version expires.  To purchase a full version of Expresso, contact your local computer retailer.

  16. • Installation Problems

  18. If you are having any problems installing Expresso, first try restarting your Macintosh with all extensions OFF.  To do this, hold down the Shift key while restarting.  Next, follow the instructions in the Quick Reference Guide and try to install again.

  21. • Known Incompatibilities
  22.  
  23. - OptiMem users: You may experience some memory-related problems.  Please turn OptiMem off for Expresso.  OptiMem 2.0 promises to solve this problem.

  25. - FlashBack and Now Menus:  The "Automatically pull menus" preference may cause confusion with the FlashBack button.  We suggest you turn off this preference in the Now Menus Control Panel.

  27. - FlashBack may conflict with other products that attempt to modify the menu bar, such as WindowPicker and SquareOne.  You can try to resolve these conflicts by changing the order by which the extensions load.  In the case of WindowPicker and SquareOne, make sure they load BEFORE FlashBack.  The easiest way to do this is to rename the extensions by inserting a space in front of the name so they're loaded first.  Many extension management utilities will also allow you to control the load order.

  30. • Importing Files from Other Programs

If you're using another calendar, address book or to-do list product, you must first export your data from that program as a text file using the default export settings.  Expresso provides many Import templates that are based on the default export settings of other programs.  Expresso 1.0b provides importing templates for ACT and IN CONTROL.

  34. Date Formats:  Expresso import templates use the month/day/year date format.  Before importing, find out what date format was used by the exporting application.  You may change the template to use the day/month/year format in Expresso's import dialog.

  37. • Exporting Files to Other Programs

  39. Expresso does not provide any export templates to Lotus Organizer, or for SideKick's address book.  After configuring your SideKick address book, you can easily create an export template in Expresso.  Expresso 1.0b provides exporting templates for ACT and IN CONTROL.

  44. • FlashBack™

  46. - The FlashBack button in the menu bar directly launches Expresso.  At Ease administrators should disable the FlashBack button by removing the FlashBack extension.  You can still get your Expresso windows to appear on the desktop using the "FlashBack on quit" preference.

  48. - If you're using a 9" or 12" monitor some applications may "knock" the FlashBack button out of view.  Switch to the Finder and the button will appear again as normal.  Also, if you're up to speed on Expresso and no longer need the help screens, you can remove the Expresso Help menu by deleting the Help folder in the Expresso folder (located in your System folder).

  53. - If you cannot launch Expresso, decrease the minimum partition size in the Finder.  Expresso can run safely in partitions as small as 1500K.  Under small partition sizes, you may not be able to use FlashBack and may be limited in the number of open windows.

  55. - You can make Expresso use less memory by using looks such as "A Black & White Zen State", "Speckle Paper", "Executive Marble", or "A Zen State".

  60. - The "From: To:" page range option in the Macintosh print dialog will not affect the number of pages printed.  Expresso printing is based on your data (e.g. days, weeks, individual names, etc.) rather than pages, so printing by pages doesn't really apply!

  63. • Synchronizing Expresso Files

  65. The file synchronization feature in Expresso is intended for bringing a file up to date with another "version" of ITSELF (called the sync. file).  At the end of synchronization, the file is copied back onto the sync. file, making them exactly the same.

  68. • Calendar Printing

When you print an Expresso calendar in month, week or day layout, the full text of events are printed.  For month and week printouts, you may turn this feature off so that only the first line of the event is printed.  To do this, use TeachText and edit the Expresso Preferences file and include the line "Allow Wrap = 0" under the [Calendar] section.

  73. • Using Expresso Files on Windows

  75. Your Macintosh Expresso files may be used with Expresso for Windows.  To do this, just follow Windows file naming conventions and use the right file "extensions" as follows:

  77. Calendar files should end with ".cl", To-Do files should end with ".td", Address-Book files should end with ".nm"

  79. To open Windows Expresso files on the Macintosh, use the "Show All" option in the Open dialog to see the files.
